On behalf of the organising and scientific program committees, I want to thank all of our guests, delegates, sponsors, exhibitors and speakers who attended the 13th edition of the International Congress on Engineering and Food – ICEF13. The Congress was presented by the International Association for Engineering and Food (IAEF) with support from Engineers Australia, the Australian Food Engineering Association (AFEA) and the Australian Institute of Food Science and Technology (AIFST).

The International Congress on Engineering and Food is a quadrennial event, which has been established as the major event in food engineering and related fields over the last 50 years. It is held in a variety of international locations and we were honoured to organise the first ICEF in the Oceania region on 23-26 September 2019. We gratefully acknowledge the support of Engineers Australia and IAEF for enabling this and the wonderful array of national and international speakers that helped to make the Congress a success.

The Congress highlighted opportunities for engineering innovations across the food supply chains to add value and enable the sustainable manufacture of healthier food products for the global markets. Other relevant topics featured in the Congress program included food security, novel food processing technologies, food systems engineering and modelling, food properties and packaging, nutrition and health, food education, food engineering innovations in Australasia, and many more.

ICEF13 fills a need to bring together representatives from the production sectors, science, technology, business communities and government focussing on how food engineering can deliver innovation and solutions to enhance the food value chain for the benefit of consumers, the environment and economy.

Thank you for attending and we look forward to seeing you all at the next Congress.
